Design Requirements
The client, Abhay Singh, requested the following for his home:
- Living Room: A modern space with a focus on comfort, using neutral tones and contemporary furniture.
- Dining Area: A cozy area that flows seamlessly from the living room, featuring ample seating for family and guests.
- Bedrooms: Personalized, clutter-free bedrooms with custom wardrobes and storage solutions.
- Kitchen: A functional, sleek kitchen with efficient storage, durable materials, and a clean aesthetic.
Bathrooms: Elegant, spa-like designs with a focus on luxury and functionality.
Challenges Faced
One of the primary challenges in the project was optimizing space within the apartment, especially considering the compact nature of city living in Mumbai. Abhay Singh desired a spacious feel without sacrificing storage or functionality, making it essential for our team to carefully plan each area to maximize its potential. Additionally, we had to incorporate his preference for modern design while maintaining a warm, homely atmosphere.
Design Concept & Inspiration
The design concept was rooted in minimalism with a modern twist. Drawing inspiration from Abhay Singh’s lifestyle and tastes, we aimed to create a harmonious blend of form and function. We introduced muted tones, clean lines, and strategic use of textures and materials to give the space a sophisticated yet welcoming feel.
Living Room
The living room serves as the focal point of Abhay Singh’s home. We chose a neutral palette of grays and whites, complemented by natural wood accents to create a modern and airy environment. Custom-made sofas in soft fabric were placed to enhance comfort, while a large rug added warmth to the room. A media wall was designed with sleek storage solutions, maintaining the room’s clutter-free ambiance.
We incorporated large, floor-to-ceiling windows to allow for plenty of natural light, which not only made the space feel larger but also added an element of brightness and openness. To give the living room a personalized touch, we added modern art pieces that resonated with Abhay Singh's personal tastes.
Dining Area
Adjacent to the living room, the dining area was designed with a sleek wooden dining table with marble accents, creating an inviting yet elegant space. Abhay Singh specifically wanted the area to have a sense of intimacy, so we opted for pendant lighting above the dining table to create a warm, cozy atmosphere during mealtimes.
The seamless transition between the living room and dining area was achieved through open-plan design. Light furniture, strategically placed mirrors, and minimalistic decor helped maintain the spacious feel without overwhelming the senses.
Master Bedroom
For the master bedroom, Abhay Singh requested a peaceful and relaxing environment that balances functionality with luxury. The color palette leaned towards calming hues like soft blues and neutrals. We installed a custom-made king-size bed with plush upholstery, paired with side tables featuring hidden storage compartments.
A walk-in wardrobe was another key feature, with sliding doors to maximize space. The wardrobe incorporated smart storage solutions for clothes, shoes, and accessories, keeping the room clutter-free and organized. To enhance the atmosphere, we added soft lighting options and textured wallpaper to provide depth to the design.
Guest Bedroom
In the guest bedroom, Abhay Singh wanted a flexible design that would cater to both guests and occasional work-from-home use. To accommodate this, we introduced a custom Murphy bed that folds seamlessly into the wall, allowing the room to double as a home office when needed.
A sleek desk and ergonomic chair were positioned by the window, providing a comfortable workspace. Neutral tones with pops of color in the form of artwork and cushions added a lively yet calming touch. Storage was cleverly incorporated under the bed and through built-in shelving units to maximize functionality.
Kitchen
The kitchen was designed to reflect Abhay Singh's passion for cooking. With a focus on functionality, we opted for a U-shaped layout, which allowed easy movement while maximizing countertop space. Modern appliances were integrated into the design, while the cabinetry featured sleek, handle-less fronts to maintain a minimalist aesthetic.
Durable quartz countertops in a light hue were selected for easy maintenance, and under-cabinet lighting was installed to provide focused illumination for meal prep.
Storage was a priority, so we implemented innovative pull-out pantry systems and corner cabinets to make the most of every inch.
Bathroom Modernization
In the bathrooms, Abhay Singh desired a spa-like experience. We opted for large-format tiles in neutral shades to create a seamless, luxurious look. Floating vanities with under-sink storage provided ample space for toiletries without overwhelming the design. In the master bathroom, we included a rain shower system with a glass enclosure, enhancing the sense of relaxation.
LED backlit mirrors and stylish fixtures added to the overall ambiance, making the bathroom not only functional but also a place of comfort and indulgence.
Material Selection
To maintain the sophisticated aesthetic that Abhay Singh envisioned, we carefully selected materials that would stand the test of time while being visually appealing. Natural wood, sleek laminates, and durable quartz were integrated throughout the home. For flooring, we opted for large-format porcelain tiles in the living spaces, while the bedrooms featured hardwood flooring for added warmth and elegance.
Soft furnishings, such as curtains and rugs, were chosen to add texture and complement the color scheme of each room. We also incorporated sustainable and eco-friendly materials wherever possible, aligning with Abhay Singh's preference for environmentally conscious design.
Lighting Design
Lighting played a crucial role in setting the tone for Abhay Singh's home. In the living and dining areas, we used a combination of natural light, recessed ceiling lights, and statement pendant lighting to create a bright, airy space during the day and a cozy, inviting atmosphere in the evening.
For the bedrooms, we selected dimmable lighting to allow for adjustable ambiance based on the time of day. Accent lighting was incorporated in shelving units and wardrobes, adding an extra layer of luxury to the overall design. Task lighting in the kitchen and bathrooms ensured practicality without compromising style.
Custom Furniture & Finishes
Throughout the project, we emphasized custom furniture that catered to Abhay Singh's specific needs and preferences. From the sleek, custom-made sofa in the living room to the bespoke cabinetry in the kitchen, each piece was carefully crafted to ensure it met the highest standards of both form and function.
The finishes were meticulously chosen to reflect the modern, understated luxury Abhay Singh sought. Matte finishes, natural wood textures, and minimalist fixtures helped to create a cohesive design that felt both modern and timeless.
Conclusion
The residential interior design project for Abhay Singh in Ghatkopar, Mumbai, was a rewarding collaboration for Amar Designer. By combining modern aesthetics with functional design, we were able to deliver a home that not only met but exceeded Abhay Singh’s expectations. The result is a sophisticated, contemporary living space that perfectly balances form, function, and comfort.
